Party of Four

Wednesday we met in the lobby at 10 am and went to the medical exam.   Boy did we see how strong Julia is and how much she can scream!!!!   She did not like being examined by the doctor.  She was so strong we couldn't hold her on the exam table.  They were able to get her height and weight.  She is 11.6 kg which is 25.5 lbs.  She is heavier than I thought she was going to be which is wonderful!  We also got an updated head circumference and it is perfectly fine.  There was a question in the referral information about her head circumference being small.  Looking at the pictures in her referral we felt her head looked proportional to her body.  We also know that sometimes the numbers are not correct.  After the medical exam we went back to the hotel.  Katie and Dan went to the pool but it started to rain.  It has rained everyday we have been here.  Someone told me it's their rainy season in Guangzhou.  It is so hot and humid.  In the afternoon we went to the local police station for the passport photos.  After that our guide took us to Tekila's a Mexican restaurant.  It was very good.  We enjoyed something different than Chinese food.  After dinner it wasn't raining so we took Katie back to the pool.  Katie is loving the pool and it feels so good after walking in this heat.

Thursday we went to the pearl factory.  I got a pearl necklace, bracelet, and earrings for Julia just like I did for Katie when we adopted her.  Our guide was very helpful and took us to a place with a good price.  After the pearl factory we went to an outdoor market.  Our guide said it was a wholesale market.  We walked through an area that was like an outdoor pet store.  Fish, turtles, dogs and cats for sale.  According to our guide these were for pets not food.  Then we came across a bucket of live scorpions.  They were for food or medical purposes.  We walked through an area of wholesale supplies for traditional Chinese medication.  It was so interesting. Later we went back to the hotel and we all took a 3 hour nap.  Then we got up and went to dinner at a local Chinese restaurant.  Our guide wrote down what we wanted to order in Chinese characters and then when we got there we just pointed at the paper.   The workers were very fascinated with us and the girls.  It was a wonderful meal and cheap.  The best meal we have had yet.  When they sat us at the restaurant they said "4" and I realized we now are a party of 4.  As we walked back to the hotel a man was doing portraits on the street.  I got a portrait done of each girl.  They look nothing like them but it's ok it was fun and then man was excited to do it.  We have come across several Chinese people including our guide that have commented that Julia does not look like a Chinese baby.  Our guide said she looks Mexican because of her big eyes.  They man doing the portraits also said she didn't look like a Chinese baby because of her big eyes.
